There’s something particularly poignant about a fourth birthday. Today, as my daughter celebrates her fourth trip around the sun, I find myself caught in a whirlwind of emotions that every parent knows all too well.

Now, my daughter has definitive ideas about everything – from the color of the balloons to the flavor of her birthday cake. Each decision has become a collaboration, a beautiful yet bittersweet reminder that she’s growing into her own person right before my eyes.
